➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I’ve tasked my two socially isolating kids with monitoring the incubator while I head to my healthcare job again today. They are under strict instructions to look but not touch and to text me if anything actually hatches. I’m hoping it will provide a diversion and give my work from home husband a tiny bit of relief. They’ve been driving him nuts with their antics and fighting.
My boys have been fighting too. The 11 year old things he's a tough guy with his 15 year old brother 🙄 It's like living with my brothers all over again!

Lockdown today! I did it this morning right when I woke up. I candled one last time, and removed the 2 for sure clears, there was one that looked like it started to develop and stopped as the whole bottom half was mostly clear but it had development and veining and an air cell so I kept it in just in case. I saw the air cell on the other 13 eggs and in 5 of them I saw actual movement!! I even saw the wing feathers on one of them as it moved back and forth! My husband is worried we will drop them so he won’t participate or I would have gotten a video. I placed the shelving paper on the bottom level and placed 2 of the caps with water, I used washi tape to secure them to the side of the incubator so that chicks can’t accidentally knock them over. I kept them around 35-40% before this, so I was planning to aim for 55-60% now, does that sound ok to everyone? Everyone’s numbers are so different, but I read it’s good to aim for a 20% increase from what you were doing before lockdown.

w00t! I may have a small market for some of my extra boys! I guy just bought his second batch of eggs from me. I though he was eating them, so I offered some pickled eggs as a sampler, which is when he mentioned that he was feeding them to his reptiles. I asked if he was interested in quail for them, and he said yes..

No activity in the incubator yet today....I lost one of the late hatching chicks in the brooder but other 20 are doing well....we had a small accident while setting up the new duckie pool....a few of my young quail evidently sneaked out of the gate when I was carrying in a brick and the dogs had been let into the deck area....they flushed 2 of the escapees into the pool that were retrieved and returned safely but they caught my favorite panda 😭 we took out 4 more to make an even freezer package....I accidentally grabbed 2 hens of the 5.....oops! Here’s some pics for your enjoyment including “pretty boy” which has become one of my most vocal males!!
