I decided to investigate the dead chick further because I was worried with the heat and everything it could be bad for the other eggs to leave it in there. So I removed it, it was definitely dead. I removed part of the shell to examine and I think it might have ruptured its yolk sack some how? It had yolk all throughout the egg and all over its face and beak, positive it was yolk and not membrane. It was perfectly formed otherwise, what a bummer. But another egg just started to externally pip. I was only hoping for 4-5 so I’m really really happy so far. Only 7 eggs left in the incubator and 3 are progressing so far. I’m going to definitely leave the incubator running another few days just in case I have any late ones. But if I can get 7 or 8 out of what I believe was 12 viable shipped eggs on my first incubation attempt I will be ecstatic.

It is much better and healthier chicks that are early hatchers vs those that are late hatchers. When I hatch turkey eggs, the vast majority hatch on day 27. A few hatch on day 28. I call the hatch and dispose of any eggs that haven't hatched by day 28.

They are nuts still.
I need to bother them more often so they calm down.

I'm going to look at real cages later today.
I'm thinking a hamster one might be good.

They may never calm down. Mine haven't. I tried to handle them a fair amount as chicks, but they never really tamed down. Have a net handy when you have to move them around later. They fly. I almost always end up chasing one around the house when I clean their enclosure.
