➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

The reindeer feed might be cost prohibitive. Time and cost to travel. Maybe when you make your monthly treks into town?
Alas, even the "town" I make the arduous monthly journey to is still rural enough that folks there have no interest in paying me for something they can find elsewhere at a cheaper rate. Cost does not equal quality in their eyes.

Forgo the trading post and go to the big city? You'd have to start going for volume, which turns into work.

Should we talk economics? Supply and demand followed by Keynesian theory.

Where do you find people willing to pay such outlandish prices?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. I am also the only person in the north bay area who seems to have quail. People could get them cheaper, but they'd have to drive 2+ hours to get them. Not worth the gas. Gas prices are also higher here than just about anywhere else (it was up to about $4.50/gallon before the shutdown. It's down to a little over $3/gallon now, I think.)

California...

Everyone is rich there.
Either rich or very, very frugal.

Here the low octane stuff was $1.76 a gallon last week. I filled up a week before and even then the high octane stuff my truck requires was $2.30 a gallon.

diesel hasn’t changed much like gas has and DH screwed up and used my $1 off points for the S-10 which we filled for 1.27/gallon....put the high octane in son’s camaro today for 2.07/gal with 30 cent discount.....I haven’t driven my car during this whole thing because my middle son parks behind it in the driveway and i don’t feel like playing musical cars.....:gig

@Kiki Ive got an unknown # of faker eggs in my bators right now along with my 29/32 myshire eggs.....i may have panicked a bit after yesterday’s fiasco and put more eggs in
i have had a total of 8 fakers hatch and move to the brooder.....I just went back and found this post after candling to see movement and internal pip in 2/3 remaining eggs so I’m giving them more time...... :fl :pop

I got to watch one hatch finally! It looked so close to hatching and my husband and I spent over an hour watching it lol.
We lost our power temporarily so I put a warm rice bag in the brooder and a few minutes later I came to find a chick just very heavily asleep with its feet hanging off the edge.

The latest batch of eggs I set is doing well! I'm collecting eggs still and debating setting more. Just not sure what else to do with them, lol. One hen isn't enough to sell hatching eggs from, and one quail egg a day doesn't make a very big breakfast omelet :p

And the three I hatched a couple days ago are also doing well. I'm very curious about what the little lighter colored one is going to feather out like.

Hello everyone! I have 5 healthy chicks in the brooder, 3 eggs going. One egg just pipped this morning and is going strong. The other two however, aren’t looking too good. One zipped partially yesterday morning and I moistened the exposed membrane last night and this morning when I removed the other chick, there wasn’t any movement and I still think there’s not any movement today. Pretty sure it died in the shell. The other egg pipped and didn’t have much progress for 18 hours so I removed just a piece of shell that it had almost gotten off. It is still alive and peeping so I just moistened the membrane, with the membrane wet you can still see blood vessels so I think it isn’t done absorbing everything yet. I’m just to continue to watch, if it’s still alive tonight with no progress I might try to help.
