➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Hatch day is always fun and exciting! Playing with new peepers.

Had one that had zipped, but couldn't pop the top. Popped the top and looks like it hit a vessel or something else was wrong. Did not thrive. Hatch rate not bad, but 20/30 at 48 hours in. Not hopeful for the last 9. QB#14 off to the races.

QB#15 in queue for later this week. These may be fertile from QB#9 rooster boys that got axed for rudeness. White girl recovering and laying eggs. May be extremely interesting in what pops out here.

Last night I was calling the hatch and had a zipper and a pip. I think I put all the eggs in at once. Might have had a cold spot. Regardless, 2 more chicks to the brooder!

QB#14
30 eggs set (not counting Set3 infertile 4 eggs)
22 hatched
2 hatched and died with black things hanging out their bellies, not formed or something
6 eggs left in incubator as I ran out the door today.

13 days old today. Lumpy seems to be doing fine other than the lump.

I'd never sell a defective quail, but I offered to throw this one in for free with a batch of three chicks that someone is buying for pets. He wants it.
Yay lumpy. These names are cracking me up.

So in 10 days my quail will be feathered like that... That's exciting. Hopefully easier to handle as well. These little buggers are fast. I only hold them an inch about the brooder flooring so I have no more accidents.

I have to go pick up a chick that I sold because it's leg is broken or dislocated. I am going to switch it out for another chick and hopefully get this chicks leg fixed. It was not like that when I sold it, but mistakes happen.

🐤Status on day 18.5 of cotunix incubation in Germany ...

110 eggs insert
94 made it into Lock Down
70 hatched till now
That is good, till now. Can only get better ;)
I do give late ones always a chance ... till day 21

So far
1 spread leg
2 kink claws
... are the problem cases.

The spread leg is already taped, for the kink claws we'll see.

Guys I had a little one malpositioned in their egg when it hatched about 2 days ago, shes very small and extremely dark... anyone see this before?

I actually assisted her in hatching, almost completely since she couldn’t move. I know it’s bad but she wouldn’t have made it and so far she’s very healthy, just worried about the size and coloration since her feet are also very brownish not pink, but one of her toes are pink. Also the beak is darker as well.

The ones that I've assisted are almost always smaller than the rest. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they don't.
