I’m going to get something to put their dirt in and I’m getting the natural mulch for the ground. They love it so much with just the little they have now. I was thinking about growing dill in there with a cage around it. Not sure yet.I use a solid bottom hutch of about 30 square feet. A dozen birds is quite manageable and keeps cleaning frequency down. Last season I did deep litter and kept adding. This season I’m trying just a layer of wood shavings and complete cleaning every so often. I also add a separate pan of dirt for bathing. Just some thoughts.
The ones that live here don't scratch. I have to rake the wood shavings to stir them up every so often. Otherwise, we get poop sheets and stench.I’m going to get something to put their dirt in and I’m getting the natural mulch for the ground. They love it so much with just the little they have now. My quail kick at everything they are ridiculous. The little ones are even worse lol.The ones that live here don't scratch. I have to rake the wood shavings to stir them up every so often. Otherwise, we get poop sheets and stench.
I have a little bit of wire in the big cages and boxes (amazon boxes specifically. You get them from ordering anything from amazon, LOL) of wood chips. The food and water goes on the wire for cleanliness.
Chickens underneath pick up any food. Mostly. Occasionally. Rest is composted.
Yep, these will kick food across the brooder. Won't scratch after the brooder though. Good luckMy quail kick at everything they are ridiculous. The little ones are even worse lol.
Mine scratch outside for the most part. My chickens are better at it though.Yep, these will kick food across the brooder. Won't scratch after the brooder though. Good luck

I give them cuttings off the herbs when I trim things back. Some they eat some they just like hiding or climbing in. Never tried dill. I haven’t managed to grow it well yet. They eat basil and bee balm. Mostly just play with the sage, thyme and oregano.I’m going to get something to put their dirt in and I’m getting the natural mulch for the ground.
