Anyone know why two 2 week old quail would just up and died overnight. There was nothing wrong with them yesterday.

Tiny has been put in my large Bator so he doesn't knock the eggs around, gave him a soft cat toy and rag to snuggle in(unfortunately he seems to know the difference between me and a toy), already testing out food and doing the baby shuffle, but doesn't seem keen on water, I dipped his beak though to show him and imma dip it again in a few hrs if I don't notice him trying to drink.
Also He has a crooked toe! I know they can have such but is it genetic or developmental? Just wanna check for future breeding. And could I correct it? Looks like the toe joint just developed wrong so it's at a 45° angle instead of straight out. Doesn't give any noticable issue but I don't want to promote bad structure or health problems.

Two 2 week old quail. There’s only one left of the 3. My husband found them dead in the aviary.

Okay so 2 out of 3 died. Hmmm. How long have they been outside? What was the lowest temp outside? No blood on any of them? Were they huddled together where they died? Any signs of a predator attack, digging around the walls, feathers everywhere, etc.? Need more info....

They were separated dead on the ground. If it was a predator, I would’ve not asked since I’d know what happened. No feathers around nothing that said predator. Lowest it’s been is 60 at night.

Now I’m stuck with the all white one I HATE!!!!!

2 weeks is a bit young for 60 degree temps. Mine aren't at temps below 70-75 at that age.

They’re probably 3 or 4 weeks. Not sure why I wrote 2. I’m a bit busy doing things so my mind is elsewhere. I guess I’ll wait to put the next batch out till they’re older like 5 or 6 weeks. It’s whatever my horrible hatch was... think Kiki put it on the spreadsheet.

I put a big layer of pine shavings out for the one that’s left. I also gave it a big hide out. It’s a storage bin that has a door cut in it.

My week olds are on no heat. They weren’t even using it, but they are inside my house.

The temps were warmer than this like 85 and the last few days has been awful weather.
