➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I'm trying to keep my little baby in the incubator as long as I can, but he keeps moving looking for friends. Would a cotton ball or two be safe to put in the incubator for him to rest with?

No.

Why not move him to a warm brooder?

Sooo cute - do you clip his wings? I have been considering taking some of my tame ones out but fear losing them :)

I have clipped them once before but they’ve since grown back in after his wild moult! 😂

Hugo was a lone quail raised with my Silkies from hatch so his behaviours are different to normal quail. He can flutter but he’s never learned to flush up like most quail.

Instead, he’s got a good set of little legs on him!

I don’t think I’ll ever get another Quail like Hugo that I can have outside like I do with him, he’s an odd boy that sits and waits for his walks on a night, calls until I get him out!

He sees me as his lady quail so that’s most likely why he likes to stay close to me, sometimes a little too close 🤭

If you could somehow net off a reasonable sized area your quails would definitely love being out then you aren’t risking loosing them if it’s a covered area 🙂

I think you are correct - Hugo is one of a kind 😍

Sorry for all the pics and I know it’s probably still a bit early/young but can anybody help me with colors or know what I might have??

Especially curious about the silvery ones like in the first pic, the white one, and the little runty yeller with silver looking stripes? Also some of the reddish ones have white feathers coming in on the wings? Is this normal? And the colors may be a tad off... they look a bit darker in these than in person. But yeah.

If anybody has any ideas, I would really appreciate. Not that it really matters but I’m just curious what I might have.

Oh and ignore the poop please. I had literally JUST cleaned the brooder and they pooped immediately after putting the clean ones down :th
