➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Think I somehow did perfect math with my quail without trying... I have 2 males and the rest are female! Bother of the males love crowing and I love the sound of it.

We are building some quail cages for the grow outs during the 4 day weekend that we have. Hoping to get at least 3 done and put them in their semi permanent spot so that they are ready for the SCC and the Rosetta.
Take pictures while you're building please

Do you have pics?

Okay but remember that one person’s “pretty and rustic” is another person’s “jenky and where did you learn to measure!??”

I’m the only one who does the farm work here including all builds because my husband’s job is like 24/7 on call.

My bunny house is not even close to being done. It was 95 on Sunday and I had blisters after 5 hours of working. I actually took apart what my hubs did and redid it. He is not a builder and neither am I, but my dad is a woodworker so I know some things. I still need to do a lot to this. And the mats in front are because the door we used was from a quail brooder (I did not like it design so I am using pieces from it) they were preventing the quail from escaping (somewhat).

thats soooo cute! I love the heart knob. And yes, my husband is also the less handy of us. Mensa boy but no concept of spatial reasoning somehow??? Brains are weird.

I adore getting found materials and giving them new life. That door is super clever.

also Re: mostly escape proof: someone warned me about my hutch doors being too big and sure enough, day two I had a hen fly right at me and then immediately over the fence into a bush. I guess she was done with laying eggs for people 😂

quail are funny

One of my hands got out and I was watering my plants and it walked right up to me wanting me to pick it up 😂 so odd. The chase started when I went to go pick it up 😂 it flushed instantly. I got her though and she was so happy to be back with the covey.

What do u even do with quaill!? They seem rather useless...
I eat the eggs and meat. I live in suburbia where the ordinances for backyard chickens are a pain. Chickens also need more space and are more likely to ruin my entire yard. The quail also fit nicely on my garden beds during the winter so they fertilize, eat the bugs and scratch in the dirt so it's ready for spring planting.
