➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Alright 14, of The 18 have hatched. 2 of them were early quitters, I’m giving the last 2 eggs another day but they haven’t even internally pipped yet so not sure. Still I’m very happy with 14 of 16 hatching! These are the eggs from my original set from Kansas City quail that were shipped and I got 7 of 15 with 1 dying within a few days. So of the 14, 11 are perfectly healthy and strong, 3 have curled toes and splay leg, those 3 all had issues hatching and I helped 2 of them. All are hobbles and 2 have boots and 1 looks perfect now and the other 2 are improving!

My husband is so encouraging. Someone gave us a free incubator with egg turner that means we can hatch another 40 eggs at a time (120 if we get the quail rails, but I’ve heard jumbo eggs don’t fit as well in them). I said we’d need another brooder, husband said no problem! I said we’d need another quail house, husband said no problem! Enabler I tell you!

So lovely!!

I hadn’t had a single blue egg until I opened up my last processed bird today 🙃🙃🙃

So the blue layers then, do they only lay blue sometimes?

Probably the egg was in an early stage of production. It might would not been layed blue, with the final shell layers.

My pansy breeder pen turned out to be all girls, so I took two boys from my teens and put them in with them. The girls promptly scalped them both. They're now in a tote inside the pansy pen recovering.

My Pansy girls are also mean. They scalped the second roo now.
Both are recovering, but one is traumatized, just running mad around, jumping against the door occasional. I think, I must process him :confused:

They started hatching yesterday, I was getting worried that I had duds but here they are;
