➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Ugh, one of my quail females got loose and someone picked her up and put her in the wrong pen. The dominant female in there tore her up :( It's a nasty wound. I've cleaned it and put Dermaclens on it but it's bad. She's under a heat lamp for shock. We'll see. If she's not looking good tomorrow, I'll put her down.

Mama silkie went back to the chicken flock last night, but the babies she fostered are still in the brooder. She was doing a great job but I was concerned because she’s been losing weight since they hatched. When I checked her crop last night it was completely empty... I think she’s been so focused on the chicks that she hasn’t been eating enough. 😕

Yesterday my brinsea eggs hatched day 18 like lights in a timer! The sex links in the nr360 are less successful so far. I had 43 out of 48 that went into lockdown in the brinsea hatch, one is still struggling, 4 quit late.

In the nr360 I have 22 successful chicks out of like 40 that went into lockdown. One chick pipped, fully zipped, had a wing out sometime overnight, but was dead in the completely popped open shell this morning, maybe one or 2 of the others sat on him and suffocated him, no clue otherwise, there were 5 chicks who hatched overnight. I had set the brinsea early morning and the nr360 late at night so I would have some breathing room on hatch day, so I’m not surprised some hatched overnight. There are a few more pips, so maybe I’ll get a few more. Next time I’ll put the sex links in the brinsea so I can test if it’s the bator or the eggs from that pen. They do bury them more than birds in the other pens, so maybe they were colder and more wet before I collected them.

forgot to mention I got a tux with a yellow head so I might save it, I’ve found the more white a tux has, the more tuxy the offspring will be when crossed with non tuxes. I only have about 7 left of the non sex links, I sold the rest. I was gonna give the last guy all the extras, but decided to see how this guy looks in a week or 2.

I saw somewhere where a person used building bricks like duplo to make separations in the bators to avoid these types of accidents, chick trampling or sitting on a hatching chick. Has anyone tried that out? I bought some mega blocks but dont plan on hatching until Jan or Feb.
