➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Well it's been an interesting couple of days.... Had a 7th chick hatch yesterday around noon. The only straggler. Today, my favorite chick, the first born, died in my hand. She was ok this morning and then later on my boyfriend realized she wasn't moving when he reached into the brooder. I picked her up and she was too far gone to be saved and died a few mins later. I decided to check the other chicks over and they seem fine, except I noticed one has extremely bulging eyes. I can't tell if he's blind, he might be. So, I don't know if he'll make it either. Despite raising chicken chicks before I've been learning a lot. I plan on picking up another dozen Celadon eggs this weekend from a local farm this time, and hopefully that hatch goes even better!

A foul handful. 11 out so far!

Oooh, are you using shelf liner on top the bedding in your brooder? That’s clever, I might do that. I had seen posts saying to use paper towels but I was worried that wouldn’t be enough traction.
I do paper towels because I put my shelf liners in the washer after they use them, and I don’t want wood chips accidentally in the wash, it’s bad enough I’m constantly washing dog beds that my 14 year old sickly dog accidentally pees on, which end up clogging the washer like every other time lol.

The beauty of many things is there are a lot of right ways to do things. :)
