➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
Well, today is the other end of hatching. I'm waiting for the water in my scalding pot to get up to 160. I only have 3 of my own to butcher thanks to the neighbour's dogs, but I have 16 from another neighbour who doesn't know how and doesn't want to process them. I offered to teach her (for free) or process them for her for 1/3 of the meat. I'm getting 5 jumbo boys to eat.

I'm so glad I have a plucker.

Some of this batch we are giving to someone who had chickens that died from a neighbors dog if I remember correctly. so they want quail the rest will be our first processing. I’m not looking forward to it but I am at the same time the killing is what I’m really not looking forward to but I’m exited to have meat that I know exactly what went into them.

I understand that. I psyched myself up for two months before I did it. I watched videos, I read tutorials. I still hate killing them, but I do like eating them.

It took me just over 3 hours to process 19 quail, including cleanup.

One came out last night dried out last night and went into the brooder last night another one just hatched.

This one decided to drown it self and was litterally dead with maybe a little tiny bit of life. He is so lucky because I was able to bring him back to life.
Quail are extremely dumb. Shallow water dish with big rocks in it.

Yeah lol I have less than a cm of water in there and it still managed to drown it self luckily I checked in on them right after it did though and I found this is also the one that is already crowing.
