➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Are they completely feathered out? If so, than, yes...if they are free from drafts, they will be just fine.

Getting there but not yet. I might put them outside for a bit on Saturday while I’m cleaning out their shed and the flight pen. It’s all connected so it shouldn’t be too hard to herd them back in when I’m done. Trying to clean it with them flying in my face is too frustrating.

RIP Pipsqueak. By afternoon yesterday baby #3 was no better so I pulled him out of the incubator and examined him again. His whole vent area was a weird solid lump, and he was clearly in pain. So I culled the poor little thing. I guess he wasn’t properly formed in the first place. :hmm

Babies 1 and 2 (Pompom and Perky) are doing great. The kids keep asking if they can have _insert treat name here_ yet.:rolleyes:

Good news! Rooster crowed. A strangled, gurgling crow, but I'm pretty sure it was a crow. Maybe the beginnings of one. Right at 8 weeks! Y'all are so smart!

Unfortunately, that means I need to separate the unselected.

Batch 1 has 4 hens & 5 roosters. I can separate all 5 and use roosters from Batch #2. Or keep the largest.

Batch 2 has 6 hens and 4 roosters. They are 5 weeks. A little early for crowing. Ideally, the selected from both batches will be put in the 8 foot coop/pen/cage for a total of 10 hens and 2 roosters.

Sorry to hear about Pipsqueak, :hugs did you take pics of the lump?

My nicest male is a freaking jerk, and now that I have daughters I honestly might cull him even though he is half of my best pair :hit. He has scalped my most valuable pullet, one I literally can't replace. There is half-dollar size of skull visible. I am sad. I am not even sure how to begin treating it and she's obviously in shock. I've got her separated and I'm giving her a heat lamp for a bit but I'm not sure what else I can do for her.
