➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

If its got splayed legs (doing the splits) you need to try the hobbles to fix the legs ASAP. If the chick gets older than a few days it is extremely unlikely to be fixed at that point as the muscles and joints will have adapted to the incorrect position. I'm not aware of any cases where splayed legs corrected themselves without intervention.

Splayed legs can be caused by too slippery of walking surface when first hatched/brooded, so you may want to make sure the floor is grippy to prevent further cases.
Thanks!!! I did some more research this morning and used some tape to fix it. Hopefully it's fixed within the next few days! :barnie

Went on lockdown yesterday! First time hatching eggs. Got these ones, including a couple celadon, at a local poultry swap. Today is Day 16, so of course I am obsessively checking for signs of pipping or movement. Here is a pic of the "clutch" after I removed the egg turner.

Good luck.
Long few days ahead.:fl

update: quail #16 is about 80% zipped and still working on it. :fl:fl and this is definitely a lively bunch of chicks! no curled toes/crooked necks/nor suicides yet!!
update: #16 rocked the egg forever so we finally finished zipping him this morning before work. he managed to push out by the time my son came home for lunch but poor prognosis relayed to me. By the time I arrived home@6ishpm he had expired in the bator. I removed him, candled remaining eggs and “called” the hatch. I’m currently cleaning and preparing for “Mother’s Day” hatch.
30 quail set,26 @lockdown, 16 hatch, 1 death. 50/50 gender split with death being male. 10 chicken set, 8 @lockdown, 4 hatch.

I feel the same way, but they do put them in a box and ship them over 2-3 days none the worse for wear. I’ve just made a mother hen for it and as soon as the box seems warm enough I’ll have it out. I can’t tell whether any of the others are progressing. Hopefully... :fl
I'm just giving you a hard time.
She is fine in there. But I'll die if you leave her for 24 hours.

It won't hurt to candle them real quick.
