➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

i wish now I had tilled and planted the aviary like we did the rest of the yard, but we had spread all the straw and stuff that i pulled out of the chicken pen and put down a throw and grow deer mix from rural king. the seed did well overall but I wish I had been able to give it more growing time before construction. my plants around my koi pond are getting really big!! hoping what i choose for the aviary do as well!!

There are absolutely no eggs or shells. They just are not laying.
i just got my first eggs this week.....(oldest hens 6 mos) have only gotten 6 all week and one had a cracked shell but membrane still intact so i’m going to crack it first to check if good for eating, and check for fertility on all the early ones.

@007Sean .......HELP Please!!! I hadn’t planned on the partridge chicks (they just jumped in the box @ rural king)
I had them housed in brooder with pheasants temporarily but I’ve already lost 3 and 4th is gone despite my efforts. I just got them separated into my indoor brooder on heat pad with brinsea plate at highest height setting. they have had gamebird feed and nutridrench water available since i picked them up. i believe the deaths were due to pileups...not sure what else i could be doing wrong!!??? according to google partridges supposed to be one of the easiest chicks to brood but to me seem as frail and difficult as quailies!!

Toss some worm castings around your plants, scratch and water it in. Should give them a boost

i’m not short on water!! part of the reason we had to till and reseed was due to flooding problem. southern indiana is now one of the wettest regions in the us and we have thick clay soil that has poor drainage. we removed/relocated over 30 wheelbarrows of soil from about 1/8 acre.

Oh yeah I know all about clay lol. But we're in the mountains so our water goes to the valley within a few days. French drains and drain grates work really well in flatter clay tho. I know some guys with hardpan like...~18in under their solid red clay. They had to jack hammer through the hp to put a drain in because their property was a giant 2 acre swamp.

Hey muddy, they will pile up, more so than other gamebird chicks. To prevent that from happening, use cardboard and make a wall to round off the corners of the brooder.
I use to brood mine in an old 100 gallon metal livestock tank, no corners.;)
They will also do better with a white light, instead of a red light. Their weird in that they can't see as well in a red light and panic and tend to all run to the corners to hide . Try using a white light and rounding off any corners and you should have a successful brood.
