➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Mine weren't shipped and I got less than 50% fertile. But the rooster is doing better. So 9.5 birds at the moment. This gives almost 5 girls.

I pulled cap off #10. No progress since this morning. I'm hopeful, but doubtful.

The 2 I assisted are having feet issues. It's been a day and one was walking on the top of it's ankle. Both are taped up. Again, hopeful.

It is what it is, you gotta balance your priorities!

Soooo, I ordered eggs a while back and didn't mention anything because I wasn't sure if they were coming or not (people keep sending me eggs without tracking numbers...), but they just unexpectedly appeared. Should be all pearls (I have silvers; I can make my own snowies) and recessive lavender/bleus. I had made peace with not getting them because I did swear I wasn't going to do another hatch before spring  But now they can all go in the incubator at the same time as the one's I'm collecting.

The one on the left is a tuxedo, brown on top of head yellow on side of head and solid stripe down back with yellow chest and belly. 2nd is all yellow, 3rd same as #1. The rest in this pic have mottled coloring to their down, normal colored Cot.
These were my very first babies Nutty...not my current ones. These babies turned into the three adults pictured earlier that we ate last week.

They could possibly be the moms of some of our current babies.

View attachment 1653328 Ah! I thought you were talking about my motley crew. All mine have racing stripes.
Do you notice any of them having more yellow on the chest and belly? I have a couple that are lighter/more yellow on the chest right now.

That's one gigantic round.

basically number of desired female birds x4 is the number of eggs if you are having them shipped. 50-60% hatch rate and 50% female.

Mine weren't shipped and I got less than 50% fertile.

Yeah, half the eggs will be shipped and half will be a test batch of 100% young, unproven birds. Have to factor in a slightly higher deformity rate for each of those things too. I think 50% might even be optimistic and I'd rather end up with extra chicks to sell or raise for meat than fewer than I need! Plus, there's a good chance I'll hoard *most* of the shipped chicks for myself.

How many hatches do I need to do in order for my birds to be proven?
Do I need to be able to set 40 eggs and all 40 end up being fertile?

Now that I'm down a few hens my male should be mating all 6 if his girlfriends right?
