➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Quail don’t like ramps, correct?
I have an 8’x2’ double rabbit hutch with boxes on each end. Granted I’ve removed the wire and doors/walls, but those boxes are nice for housing, and... well, I’d want to put in a ramp to allow them to get down to the ground.

BC I've read different opinions and experiences on this. Some people have them that don't mind a bit. It could work!

Watch the doe and make sure she is finished. Or if she has started. Does can pull hair hours before kindling. You will see the babies wiggling in the hair. Once she is finished you can take the box out and look at them. :pop
I stared for a while and couldn't see any wiggling, so maybe she was still prepping the nest? She did a foot stomp which she rarely does so I was worried I was upsetting her. Friday was day 30 from when she was put with the buck. I'm about to go downstairs and check on her.

Ok, just got back from checking on her. She did not have them when I saw the fur last night, but there were babies this morning. One was in the fur nest and the rest were at the front of the box and uncovered. Three either were still born or passed from the cold. The three snuggled together at the front were warm but some weren't cleaned off. I took the box out and moved the live babies to the fur nest and removed the dead ones and messed up hay. I hope that won't cause her to reject the babies. Will she go and clean off the babies now they are in the nest?

How are the babies now? Is she doing good mom things?

They are good, full tummies. They all look the same color. Picture is of two of them.

Adorable :love I hope she has an easy time with the rest and if not, well, she's a first time mom, I'm sure we've all wished someone would cut us some slack if we were to eat our babies (of any variety) at some point or another :lau

Well, I didn't quite make it to 96, but 73 eggs just went into the (two) incubators! 50 shipped and another 23 of my own. I have space and another ~16 are joining them within a couple of days.

That poor blue hen with the mohawk is very beloved by her rooster and a good sport. Excited to have a new pullet hatched to join her to help take the heat. She's also the frequent twice/day layer, very like her mom.

I'm doing a winter survival trip the weekend directly before I'll be due for lockdown. Good motivation not to freeze. The peeps will neeeeeeeed me! :woot
