➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My dealer had just under 50% fertile last time. I’m expecting there will be more this time. 23 eggs, I’m guessing eight make it to me.

Yeah, I can't say my hatch rate has tended much higher, but again, all shipped eggs and unproven birds. I am *hoping* for at least 40 chicks out of the 72 currently in the incubator.

Oh shiznit, nice! Lots of crossover, mine should be pearl, lavender, pastel, silver/blue, roux dilute, Italian, silver italian, autumn amber, falb fee, red range, charcoal, charcoal rosettas, golden layer, partial tuxedo/white primaries...I think that's it. This is my first test of ten new breeding pairs and I already had to pull quite a few obviously infertile eggs, so def not going to get *all* of those.
OK - I'll ask.
All the same size as the jumbo meat birds? Tastes the same, of course.

My new chicks over the weekend. 6 Japs and 2 California quails. Total babys now 10 Japs and 3 California. Got eggs set for 10 eggs this weekend and 20 next. Hoping to have chicks hatching every weekend now.

Short answer: no, they never ever will be, all the fancy color genes limit growth.

That said, some color strains have gotten closer. Myshire lists averages for their lines on their website, and JMF could 100% provide info on theirs too.

Long answer: they're in a high concentration system in my garage and I prefer large bantam sized birds anyways so that's what I've sought out as my breeding stock.

large, bantam size birds - please explain this. It sounds like "large shrimp" or "small giant". I'm a might confused.
