Would the rubber grippy stuff work for letting waste fall through without foot issues?

Honestly, I'm about to just pull the few remaining wire trays. I specifically got cages where you could remove both the wire and the underneath tray individually if necessary. My cages with shavings are less smelly and haven't seemed to have any issues with poopfoot.

I have dealt with my fair share of injuries since getting these suckers, including what I thought was a missing eye and an arterial bleed at the time (they were both fine) but I have never actually been this worried a bird wouldn't make it Ahhh!

Finding out who liked who enough to be paired up took a bit of trial and error although there has been peace in the birdroom since.

Okay, she's as tended as I can tend her, magic meds are on the way, I will consider some excision tomorrow before I go on my trip, and I needed some good news so I went and waved hello to (currently, I am not claiming I am at all good at this yet ) 51 happy embryos. Another one about to explode on me so had to pull a few obviously undeveloped ones.

My later batch in both incubators has a significantly higher viability rate. The major difference is that it's all local fresh eggs vs. shipped, but I also made some minor tweaks to the temp settings I think helped a lot (I have cheap incubators and my secondary sensors were getting readings from spots running a little warm and cool respectively). I still have 15 from my purchased batch And I have four pairs of birds nearing 100% egg fertility/viability so far, so that's exciting.

Well. Maybe three. One is poor bumblefoot hen. I very much hope she pulls through. About half dozen of her babies with my avatar bird are in the incubator right now.

~3 weeks for anything wild-type and ~6 weeks for the A&Ms (behavior can let you guess before then but there are always late oddballs).

Is that what happened?! My RK is fickle about what they get in. I thought they just didn’t have the gamebird now. I bought meat bird too. It’s a little better than the all-flock. They will survive.

Check the lysine and methionine levels. It isn't all about the protein. If the all flock has higher levels of lysine and methionine, it is better for them than the meat bird.

Protein requirement of Japanese Quail

"Four crude protein levels (20, 22, 24 and 26%) were evaluated for Japanese quails and it was concluded that after lysine and methionine + cystine requirements were met, 20% crude protein level resulted in best performance from 1 to 42 days of age (Murakami et al., 1993a)."

The problem here being that the lower protein feeds that are available do not have the necessary levels of lysine, methionine and cystine. It isn't all about the protein level.

The jumbos are pretty easy, I think mine are 4ish weeks old. Can tell the jumbo boys & girls. The Texas

I've gotten lucky so far with most everyone on wire but I just found my first foot issue, and it's on my baby Egglantine, the first chick I ever hatched

I've got her cleaned and on clean paper towels. Feeling like a bad quail momma, especially since I'm gone all weekend. I must leave good instructions for the hubby.

We had today off because of nasty weather so I made some home decor items for a silent auction fundraiser at my sons school. They are made of pheasant, mallard, and chuckar feathers.
