➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I am sad. Looks like bumblefoot and her legs are warm. Hen QT'd, cage exacuated, tricide-neo overnighted. I knew I should have had some of that stuff on hand :he Off to the store for epsom salts in the meantime.

Why is it always the favorites?! Everyone else's feet look great...
:(:hugs

The jumbos are pretty easy, I think mine are 4ish weeks old. Can tell the jumbo boys & girls. The Texas
..:idunno no idea. Not even the slightest hint!

I just peeked my torch in the incubator, its only day 16, we have pipping

You made me look at the calendar. Lockdown starts Monday. Chicks next week??? Already?

I mean, Chicks next week!!!

Now, who was supposed to build that second hutch???

Kiki - how are the modified rabbit bins working? My 9 are in one and time to clean and replace the cardboard in the cuddle box.

They are working out perfectly. I was supposed to separate them out into all three cages but I still haven't done so.
I've also changed my dirt boxes a lot of times already.

As I was checking this morning, I had one obviously speckled chest. One girl! I need to do a head count and sex them this afternoon. I thought differentiating the sexes came at 4 weeks or so. I'm surprised.

Looks like the 2 week olds are doing fine outside at 40°F with no heat. Cuddle box is working. Little buggers grew feathers fast too. That means I can put them in the big cage for the next 2 weeks.

Most people use cardboard for the cuddle box. I'm using an old refrigerator drawer.

IKR! i’m excited and semi-prepared but tooo fast haha!! the possibility of 40+ chicks when 18 is the max Ive had before is kinda flipping me out too. just went out to check on everyone.....i put heater in with 4 week olds (because of temp swing and windchill) and while feeding them today, 2 flew the coop while my back was turned!! first one was easy to find....other 1 had squeezed in behind the hutch and had a minor neck injury as result.....i opened up the stairs because after a bit of freedom the others were trying to escape! hopefully everyone will be ok! my next round of eggs has been delayed which is fine. (will give these time to hatch! myshire actually sold out max capacity from memphis to texas! he offered to ship next week but i told him i’d be willing to wait...im monitoring the auctions and maybe get a little better deal on what i want! i’m really tempted to try out sex-linked batch even though i want more snowy/pearl!

Thank you. She looks pert and perky this morning and is still eating and drinking fine so I'm hoping we can turn it around. I did kind of a basic clean and soak on it last night but today is excising everything nasty and packing it :(

@RUNuts I am so glad you have a girl, those early pullets help so much with planning, haha.

Me too! 51 potentials right now and the most I have ever had in one go is SIX! AHH! (in a good way). If I don't get a pearl in this batch I give up :th I'm real excited about the potential lavenders, too. I feel a lot better about releasing a true-breeding blue line vs. the lethal dominants.

If by sex-linked you mean the roux dilute/"egyptian", you should! I have to order a full batch at some point. I have one roux male but he is teeny weeny compared to his brothers, and I'm not sure I like his beak.

Show me your drawers. :caf

I need to clean my drawers and the dirt before I show Kiki. She is very poop shy. :idunno

I think it was an old ice tray drawer from the funny way it is shaped. The handle is lowered so I turned it upside down and the quail squeeze in. Now they are getting bigger, not sure how much longer this one will work. Bigger and fluffier.

At what point do y'all go from 1/4" wire to 1/2" wire on the floors? I'm thinking these are graduating today.
