Oh boy, very exciting overnight!!!

Hope he's ok cortinex.

I have come to the realization that if I want a couple of unrelated breeding family's, I probably need a second bator & second brooder. Hatch them all at the same time. They are so accepting of each other up till about 4 weeks, then all the hormones kick in and they get upset about intruders

So my brown girl & white boy are obviously happy with only each other (purple family). They are both nasty to anyone else housed with them.

White girl (purple) is in with the other pubescent girls (blue) and all is ok.
The boys (blue) are together.

But now I have no unrelated boys to put with my blue girls since purple boy is being a dick

i run a full batch 4c or so through food processor and have ready for brooder. once that’s gone, i make the decision whether to grind more or not.

I’m certainly not doubting smaller is better. But isn’t crumble what they typically eat?

I can't comment on what they 'typically' eat, as we are anything but typical over here. I'm not versed on the ingredients or nutritional content of crumble.

I can only say that my chicks eat teeny weeny breadcrumb size specks of food for the first few weeks, slowly getting bigger. A whole flaxseed is too big for their itsy bitsy beaks.

Yes, I have to have a dedicated chick feed mortar and pestle. I need to get a coffee grinder....

Thank you @Crazydoglady99 . He is SO friggin cute and he is obviously trying real hard to figure it out.

He was even less inclined to wander around and find things without other chicks around him to hear, so he's back with everyone else. But now the wall they all hang out on is set up in a straight line with water --> heat --> food all against the wall so hopefully he will get the hang of it. There's even a little curved bumper to steer him back around. We will see If it is actually a she and doing well I would happy integrate her with the other pet/laying hens just for novelty's sake. They have a big 12 square foot bottom dog crate cage. Rainbow quailies

Means I probably only have one real pearl, though. Don't die on meeeee.

Luckily, it is among the biggest and most robust of all my chicks. So if I only get one at least it is a nice one. Definitely staying regardless of gender.

I think those other yellow/blue/greyish pharoah looking ones are falb fee. I wish I remembered what my current falb fee hen looked like as a chick :/ They're gorgeous, though, I would definitely take a few more.

I am extremely proud of three of my homebred babies in particular. Unsurprisingly from pairs "A" and "B" . HUGE and thick and exotic looking. I must take more pictures of my definite keepers.
