➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I had one try to drown it self this morning. As I said yesterday, I’m using a jar to fill their water (Small dish). One jumped inside the jar!! So now I really do have this! Water and all.

It’s dry now, so I guess it’ll live.

I'd say a good time to start collecting them to hatch is one month after they start laying.
At least one month
Well good the same principle applies to quail as ducks!

Do your incubators smells horrendous after your chicks are done hatching? I keep mine in my closet since it’s the only room without any air vents. And my room stinks like poo before all of them hatch.:sick

You could be like me and scent sensitive. I can smell better than most people I know. Some smells bother me more than others. Yes right before a hatch the incubator scent changes.

Okay good, I'm glad the consensus is they can hang around until butcher time as long as they're doing well. I was able to completely correct one of my wee ones with a crooked foot, but I have another small one being resistant and an older one it's just far too late for. They're all gaining weight almost as fast as their siblings, though, and don't seem to be in pain.

@CoturnixComplex have you tried ordering direct from the manufacturer? I was looking for a floating duck food and found some on amazon but only 5lb bags. Googled the manufacturer and was able to order 50 lb bags from the manufacturer.

I should look into that! Thanks!

Yes! The smell changes distinctly to new poopy baby like a day before hatch, and then I personally find the post-hatch incubator smell *atrocious*, so I try to snag eggshells as they're produced, it helps a little.

Well isn’t that neat! Do you have to meet a minimum?

I had one die in a country crock lid of water the other day......:th
I didn’t. It was interesting tho, it is listed as Mazuri on amazon and I went to the mazuri.com website but I believe they are owned by purina. PMI Nutrition International? Wholly owned subsidiary I think. Anyway, there were no minimums. Don’t see that option on the purinamills site but there may be another brand that has a direct ship option.

Well sweet, mine is purina too, so maybe I just have to do some digging.

On normal markets it is $20/50lbs in store and like $25/5lbs online :sick

When one hatches all that poop and wet stuff stinks to me and when it takes a couple days to hatch all of them.....ewww

And yes, I can’t hear or see but my sniffer is good. Which isn’t a good thing normally.

I could tell which of the 6 children needed a diaper change by smell. I did not have to be in the room with them to know who needed to be changed. Was like hearing one cry while in another room and knowing who it was.
