➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Apparently it's better to wait till she weans the babies. So all her body's resources go to growing more baby rabbits -versus producing milk.

I had rabbits once.. the little buggers dug out and ran away :lau s**t heads.

I would have to convert a big part of my yard with netting underneath then grass on top to have breeding bunnies.. hhhrrrmmmm.. I dunno if I've got the energy :thmaybe a gun license and a gun would be easier, then I can get wild ones.
Here you don't need a license or permit to take jackrabbits and the season is open all year.

Beautiful cages!! I am so mad browsing CL; there are so many beautiful cages for sale cheap but they are all only set up for being put outside.
I have gone back and forth on what other breed I want so many times :gig Californians are beautiful and so special being local! I've also given some weight to the "identical white (ideally red eyed) buns are easy to process and not get attached to" school of thought. There are too many beautiful NZ reds around too.

I love the giant breeds but only being able to turn them out in larger quarters supervised part of the time is making me rethink them, especially since they're actually less efficient usuallly. The list of animals to go into rotation in the little outdoor predator protected space is also getting looooooong if you include the three cats and all the birds! I can make a pretty dope multi-story living space for a 5-10lb bunny in the heated greenhouse but the 15-20lbers are going to have to wait until the second greenhouse ( :D ) is in the budget.

Pepper and her babies have the coolest rainbow chinchilla look :love I love them. I hope the light grey one is a 4 1/2lb doe .
I think you will be able to figure something out for the buns. I'm hoping the lightest one is a girl so I can keep her, it weighed 2 lbs 2 oz tonight. The rest were right at or under 2 lbs.

Kiki I set some eggs, I managed to squeeze 7 turkey eggs and 39 chicken eggs in my incubator. Now I have to fix the busted one before Monday so I can prepare it for quail eggs so the hatch same time as the chicken eggs. Either that or hope a bunch of the chicken eggs aren't fertile so I can squeeze them into the same incubator. I have someone who wants to buy 15 chicken chicks and 10 quail chicks. :D

Some of the eggs are from my brahmas, or white rock/blue Wyandotte hens with brahma father.

Great minds think alike! I think she is the cutest but they are all a close 2nd :love

I can't decide if I want one that would stay consistent with the dark grey purebred chinchilla coat color, or distinct from it. So win-win. :lau

Another good breed of rabbit is the Blanc de Hotot. A rare breed that's hard to find and if you can find them it's well worth it. I raised then for a couple years. Very gentle and a all around good rabbit that looks good also.

What do you wanna talk about?
I have a son; I will keep him if he is any bigger but otherwise I am re-obtaining the strain elsewhere
 You’re a very strict mother!!
:clap
One of my new chicks died last night. The previous chicks were amazingly self-preserving compared to this group, which somehow manage to completely soak their selves in a tiniest amount of water (the dish is filled with marbles) and thus get chilled. I have water nipples for this group, but the initial, easier to warm, brooder didn't have enough space to properly set them up. The chicks are in a larger bin now, but I suspect even with the nipples, some of them will still manage to get more water on their fluff than in their mouths.
:hugs
I am pretty sure that I need to order some jumbo eggs soon.
I think I have made my mind up.
Probably a few Pearls too.
I was looking at eggs last night.
