āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I have, it's wonderful! It was super helpful with my first batch of chicks. I wish there were more colors but the photos are so high quality :love

Yeah, I found it some time ago, looking for pheasant info....they have really crappy Goldens

I think your pearl is beautiful! I love the looks of the ā€œdirty pearlsā€ as well! I am basically in awe of all of the variations! my avatar pearl looks similar to yours but my pearl from this batch has way more black! i’m getting soooo excited for current batches to see the variety! I also kept out my silkie egg from yesterday to possible put in for an experimental hatch. I’ve been seeing some ā€œactivityā€ between my BO and WS cockerels with all of my girls and getting some fertile eggs, so who knows?? ssc eggs go into lockdown tonight, buttons lockdown Sunday. Hatches should be complete for pearls to lockdown next Friday!! I pulled 1 pearl a couple days ago due to cracked shell (not sure what caused the crack as I don’t recall dropping it) cracked it open and showed partial development. hopefully can determine clears and pull when I lockdown the buttons as it will be day 9/10. This is not only my largest but first ā€œstaggeredā€ hatch. :fl:fl:pop

I missed this before! Yay! I am enlisting you to take good photos of all of them, we need a new/expanded color thread.

I have a love/hate relationship with staggered hatches. Yaybabies!yaybabies!yaybabies!omgsotired. I hope yours goes smoothly and you get hordes of healthy little ones :fl

yes I was just perusing the link from 007 and wishing I had my son take more ā€œhigh qualityā€ photos of the previous chicks!! will definitely get him to get better photos of the new hatches! i was looking at my quail this morning while feeding and my avatar pearl is exhibiting some ā€œitalianā€ speckling and my falb has had some crazy feathers that your earlier post on the ā€œcurlyā€ gene has made me wonder about!:caf

It's my falb fee too! Maybe we are on to something!! Pics pics!

In other news, I posted a CL ad finally last night and 16 hours later I am juggling 5 orders and a wait list  Maybe these silly birds will earn their keep!

Remind me again what we are all using as quail living quarters flooring covering..

I use sawdust (once they are out of brooder), I change it weekly-as they are out on ground during the day. I like sawdust because it's cheap enough, easy to buy big blocks of, and it's awesome to add to the compost pile.
Anyway, as the quail population increases, the sawdust is irritating my arms and giving me itchy rashes. Not sure what else to use that is 'semi environmentally friendly' ? I wish I could use puppy pads, but they are not compostable.
I'm considering using old towels (wash them weekly), or maybe cover towels with paper towel -that would be super easy to change, just swap a layer out each day.

I've seen rice hulls in enormous bags. Expensive I think, but apparently insect resistant.
