➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I don’t think I have snowy yet and I am kinda hoping that he has some jumbo. I’m hoping this to be my last shipped hatch for a while. If all goes well, it will put my flock around 100 birds so I can finally let hubby have a few on the dinner table and start setting my own eggs! with the current group that should start laying, I have the potential for pharaoh, sparkly, etc.

You have so many pearls and silvers! Combine them and you'll have snowies next gen. I vote jumbos if you're itching for some BBQ birds!

I vote Jumbos too. I'd really like to know just how much one of theirs eggs weigh. The bird too.

Anyone have any jumbo eggs they could weigh right now?

Anybody experience with sexing quail in ways other than feathers/coloring? My TX A&Ms have proved very difficult to sex. I tried pressing below the vent to get them to excrete white foam. That didn't work. Perhaps they are all females... I wish. I am sure there's some males in the group of 20+ TX A&Ms. Perhaps they are not sexually mature yet. They were 8.5 weeks on Saturday when I was trying to sex them.

We were successful with sexing the Jumbo Browns. My wife and I identified 8 males. I selected 3 to keep and culled the rest - wife couldn't hang around for that part. Here's pics of the 3 keepers (6 pics of them) followed by pics of those we culled. I haven't weighed or measured any, but feel like the 5 culled ones will be 1 meal for me, my wife and our son - 2 per adult, 1 for son (2.5yrs old).

I walked out to give vegetable scraps to the chickens, and the quail said they needed fed again. Fifteen birds were lined up cutely, eating. One was laying by the divider bar, and another was running around the cave, and Sleeping Beauty. I think that one is just loony.

Tell me if I need to upload the video, but there’s nothing to see. She shifts her weight a little, and closes her eyes. They are on GB feed. They will be five-weeks Wednesday.

that’s what i’m hoping for is more jumbos! i’ve been in contact with him a little today, but due to large number of orders and some other confusion, I may not be able to add the extra eggs as the 30 may have already gone out. the assortment that I got however could include jumbos already so I won’t be too bummed if I only set 30 this round. like I really need more quail  should be around 70-75 bird before eggs arrive. like a wise person said....I should really leave room to hatch my own! :old
