➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

We have 60/100 hatched on days 17&18. It’s day 22 today we still have about 30 eggs left in the incubator because a few of them have just pipped (a few died, and were shrink wrapped from taking too long zip? Hum. during lockdown has stayed consistently at 75% minimum).

All these eggs left in the bator seem to have been laid by the same few hens, as they look similar. Do you guys think it’s a genetic thing that they hatch late/will not hatch successfully? When do I call it quit? Day 22? 23?

We never had this problem when hatching our own eggs..please share your thoughts!

Up to three with two more working on it. Dang, another! It is amazing how fast they can be! It may be a pearl thing View attachment 1729299but I’m not used to them looking so naked. Only o e looks like a normal healthy quail baby. Worried these little tiny things won’t survive .
This ones not naked just wet. Once dry, it will look like a normal fluffy quail chick.

Are you sure they were fertile?

Your humidity is higher than I would be running it at...60 to 65% is adequate. Too high humidity will cause problems, 'stuck chicks', taking longer to hatch, which in my observations, leads to crooked toes.

No, I don't think it's a genetics issue. Theres a certain percentage of embryos that will stop developing/die in the early stages in incubation, another percent mid way through and another percentage at the end of the incubation period, that percentage varies with the amount of eggs set, I can't remember the exact percent off hand.
The ones that are just now pipping have been in an area of the incubator that wasn't at the correct temp, lower temp than 99.5°F.

I would let the ones that have pipped continue to hatch but after they hatch, I'd consider that the end of the hatch.

Usually the ones that have very light colored fluff look pink the first few days, because you are seeing the skin under the fluff. They should look better in a few days.

This. :)

@honanbm Can you please get a few of these dummies?!
I love them, and I'd love to have them, but I've only got 2 acres. I propose that you purchase a plot of land (50 acres ought to do it) in northern Idaho for me, and I will then purchase the cows and allow you to come and groom them. Deal?
