➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Your humidity is higher than I would be running it at...60 to 65% is adequate. Too high humidity will cause problems, 'stuck chicks', taking longer to hatch, which in my observations, leads to crooked toes.

No, I don't think it's a genetics issue. Theres a certain percentage of embryos that will stop developing/die in the early stages in incubation, another percent mid way through and another percentage at the end of the incubation period, that percentage varies with the amount of eggs set, I can't remember the exact percent off hand.
The ones that are just now pipping have been in an area of the incubator that wasn't at the correct temp, lower temp than 99.5°F.

I would let the ones that have pipped continue to hatch but after they hatch, I'd consider that the end of the hatch.

I see. Any way I can make sure the temp inside stay the same in different areas? I have a circulated air incubator but it is a styrofoam one.

In general, how many days do people typically let their hatch continue before calling it a hatch?

I rotate my eggs to different areas of incubator a few times during first 14 days and I’ve started keeping humidity lower during lockdown as I had several in one batch that I believe drowned right at the end. I basically call it 48 hours after first hatch unless I see signs of progress from a particular egg. But IME once you reach 48 hour mark, the chances of healthy hatch and survival past 1 week go way down.

That's a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing it! I will try it my next hatch.

i can’t take full credit.....as everything I’ve learned about hatching has been on backyard chickens!!! I started with the halloween hatch-a-long and this is my 3rd chicken and 6th quail hatch.....2 different “cheap” incubators! :old

I'd leave them...it won't hurt...just in case...a few more days.

I use thermometers all over my bator...well just four...so I can be sure to know where the temp differs.
Moving/rotating them is a great idea.

@dpenning......hatch update??? how’s little nekkid??

Hims probably still naked.
:love

I have seven hatched and scampering around the brooder. Two are working their way out. This is the slowest hatch I’ve had for quail. Me. nekkid is still hanging out in the chick mosh pit. His dark feathers have fluffed up, he just doesn’t have any yellow feathers!

What cuties! He should be fine. I have one that also looks almost like that at the moment. Also a pearl-type. But your is from pearl parents (?) and looks like it will be 100% dark. I demand pics when grown!
