Yeah, most peeps would say I'm bonkers! theroritically, it should be 50/50 with hatching eggs. A few years ago I noticed I had a porpotionately higher rate of male birds hatching. So decided to investigate why, was it temperature, male to female ratio in my breeding birds or what? In many species if there are not enough available males to breed, the females of the species tend to produce more male offspring than female. Then ran across an article about egg shape and sex determination. Not really believing it I decided to give it a try! Maybe after several years of observation I'll get an answer?
Some will say my sampling size isn't adequate but over the course of several years should be enough to reach a reliable conclusion, either yes or no, there is correlation between shape of egg and sex determination.

40 chicken eggs in incubator. Today is day 0. That leaves 2 empty spots. What would Kiki do while sitting at the table looking at possibly fertile quail eggs??? Hmmm.

I haven't times him yet but I think I could figure out about how long it takes him based on the timestamps of my photos.

Within the last hour had my pheasant's started hatching. So far the eggs I 'marked' either male or female, have been correct. These are golden eggs, have other species that I'll have to wait until they are about 4 to 5 months old to see if they turn out to be what I marked the eggs as....hope it holds true, then I can cull before even incubating.

Egg shape has been proven that it is not effective with chicken eggs when trying to determine sex based on egg shape. It cannot be effective when using turkey or guinea eggs since all turkey and guinea eggs are pointy.

I suspect that it is not effective with quail eggs since all the pictures that I have seen of quail eggs have been round without any pointy ones.

While y'all are on the subject of sexing eggs, I need your insight. Batch #1 has 4 hens and 1 rooster. I collect the eggs daily and check morning and night. So Monday morning, there were no eggs. Then Monday night I collected 5 eggs all laid in the sand bath. So no hidden surprises.

So, how do you tell the rooster eggs from the hens?
