I am mad about the sponge drowning, and the 3/4 zip I think drowned too.

So sorry about the losses :hugs. Try not to feel too badly about the drowned chick—that's the kind of death we can learn from, once the anger/sadness has passed.

I want to focus on the fact that you have six whole squirming little chicks! May they grow healthy and strong (and here's hoping they're all girls)! :fl

Yea the sponge drowning Really sucks thanks for teaching me something new i had no idea it could be possible. Was the sponge actually in a container of water? I know thats the best way to do humidity but i havent ever had to Really fight low humidity personally.
No, it wasn’t even in a container. I don’t think a chicken chick would have drowned on it.
I’ve learned a lesson, but do have ā€œtheā€ question. :lau I know who will answer too. I also think I have an idea of what the answer is.
Why did four chicks make it to pip, and even zip, but not fully develop?

Made the decision today to cull my last male. He'd tidbit for and look after one girl, but was stressing out the other birds to the point they turned on him. Time in separation with his favorite hen didn't help the issue and it wasn't fair to segregate them within the aviary—I'm just not set up to care for a monogamous Coturnix.

R.I.P. NotCurly, beautiful boy :hit

I don't think I'll be keeping any of the males from this last hatch—in my experience, roosters mean more drama and micro-management than I'm up for in a pet. It should be easier to cull 10-15 of them as long as I don't goof up and name them between now and then .

On the up side, three of my current chicks came from NotCurly and Babs—I've got my fingers crossed that at least one of them is a hen :fl.

The yallars are noticeably larger than the wild colored ones. And the feathers are just shooting out of them.

Lol. Hilarious how they are split up by color.

You want annoying?! Dead baby drowned from resting against a sponge. :he
One is from the white egg, so my hope for a white is wrong.

Another is almost done zipping.
Oh my. They are dumb. They will find a way to kill themselves. You have to baby proof everything.

I'm sorry.
