Yes!! I’m still figuring out logistics of separating breeding groups for experimentation! I’m starting to think that my orders are like a box of chocolates as I never know what I’ll get! For example....this batch was pansy pearl Grau fee and homegrown View attachment 1828425 View attachment 1828423 View attachment 1828422 ....I got more snowies and charcoal/silver tux! Excuse their filth I’m hoping they clean up a little when I release them in the next week or so

Anybody keeping quail on wire? I'm looking for ideas on keeping odor down from all their poop. My outdoor cage is about 4' off the ground. The poop just falls onto dirt below. I thought of composting, but I don't want heat and fumes from the pile to rise right into the quail cage. Deep litter maybe? It would get a bit wet though. The quail cage has a solid roof to protect the quail from rain, but some rain will get on the dirt (and deep litter if I went that route) since the roof is about 5' off the ground. I fear deep litter would get moldy and smell worse than just the poop on dirt.

You could try deep litter under the coop. Maybe make a kind of frame or box to hold it, like a raised bed. Let it collect a layer of poop then sprinkle litter over in a thin layer and keep going until it’s full. You could have one side removable for cleaning out. If you wanted it to compost I suppose you’d have to make some sort of air holes. Otherwise you could fork it all into a wheelbarrow and take it to a compost bin, then start over. You could shelter it with a windbreak on the side of the prevailing winds to keep most of the rain off.

You could also consider something similar using sand in the box and scooping out the poop regularly with one of those slotted kitty litter scoops. I know some folks do that with chicken coops and runs.

Just me and the dummy floating in the pool on the first “Texas hot” weekend day of summer!!!! Hubby sick as a dog, 1 kiddo just left for work, and other 2 are just “allergic” to the outdoors!!!

Yeah even though she disguises it well with her “size” she’s actually one of those “fake” doggies hahaha. When I asked for a “water dog” I wanted one that could actually swim!!!!

I really wish quailies understood what I was saying! I just released some of the bigger babies into “genpop” and a few of my adults were messing with them....I calmly picked up the adult offenders and wrapped my hand around their head and told them that if they continue to mess with my babies....I will have no problem pulling their f-ing head off! But unfortunately I don’t think they took the threat quite as seriously as meant so I may be butchering a few more in the near future!
