➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

actually i missed her entire auction!! had to go back and look for it!! but I did place a couple other bids today including recently on 60 bidders choice!! :fl i don’t win and nobody backs out!!! I’m kinda in shock....never heard of anyone backing out before especially when such great deals!!......
They must have been a dolt.

When the wind blows the wrong way, there’s always blue tarps and clothes-pin type clamps...
Yes, however, the weather prognosticators did not say cover your quail cages. They said it would rain. Good with rain. Not good with howling tornado force winds. At the point I understood this, I was fine with the quail getting damp. The top of the bedding dried.

Other issue was tarps act very much like sails. The coops are top heavy and would go for a ride.

Good thoughts though. Keep them coming!

Yes, my “pens” are probably a little more substantial than quail need. :p Before the greenwood began to dry, I could barely move them along. We did have a night—a howling (late) blizzard—that worried me. The one I had built at the time, the lightest one, never thought of moving though I had to shovel it out in the morning to check on my poor little meaties.

:barnieI just candled my day five homegrowns. One looks great with movement. Two are clear. The other nine have some development but are either too dark or just too ambiguous to tell much. Definitely vessels with a central embryo starting but no obvious movement.

Should the embryo with heartbeat be pretty obvious at this point or is there a good chance they already quit?

Oh, that sounds good. Too bad I have to finish painting the wood for my quail hutch/run today. It's back to work tomorrow. (I know, I'm cutting it close on the hutch, but all of the materials have been purchased, and putting it together shouldn't take long.)
Ohhh my god I forgot about painting...thought I was done spending money! Did you get it finished?
I found salmon guy!!!

new kayaks?...do tell!!! (with pics)

Well, one very old hand me down and one "used" but with tags on we got for a great deal. I have to take some photos next time we go out. We are having a blast! Yesterday was kind of intense; we might go to a warmer lake next time haha.

I still have 8 little happy peepers in my small batch!

And Frankenbator is live and holding steady with a new jacket (ignore actual bator temp, is useless, and yes, it has well cleared air holes). I have one more thermometer to dig out tomorrow and slap on but that one's pretty accurate (well, when it has space to display all digits...).

every time I think I’ve “learnt” it all, they find a way to prove me wrong!!! with my “homegrowns” i see higher fertility but some smaller size and sometimes more “challenging”.....(ie my scissorbeak, albino, and a couple “runts”) haven’t really noted any particular delays in timeframe of hatching vs shipped eggs.
I learn something everytime I hatch and I've been hatching all kinds of eggs for over 50 years! ;)

I got the coop finished. Still working on the pieces for the runs. The run is being built in two parts, so I have an adjustable sized enclosure, either 6'x4' or 6'x8' plus the 2'x6' coop. That should be plenty of space for the permanent 6 bird flock and any meat birds that need some time before going on to their great reward in the sky.
