➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Should be home in about an hour so I can start my bird shuffling! Going to follow @Texas Kiki and not increase humidity until first pip :fl or late this evening whichever comes first!
Had a few losses while gone....@30 hatchlings and 2 birds were killed in the aviary. 1 was mm pheasant chick :hit
Not sure about the other as son only found pieces and didn’t send me any pics. Guessing I have a meaniebird in there somewhere even though I’ve not witnessed any scuffles. Hopefully I can get chickenland cleaned up enough to put some birds in time-out!

just finished feeding and checking everyone as my son hadn’t gotten around to it yet.....unfortunately an unnoticed waterer malfunction occurred sometime after midnight when he last checked on them and I came home to 6 dead babies in the brooder. so i’m now @24. both of the ones killed in the aviary were mm chicks. as best i can tell I have 1 left running around and 1 in the grow-out cage. i’m pretty sure the culprit is pheasant cockbird. I’m going to try to get him separated out but it is sweltering out there today and after 3 days in a tent, I needed a few minutes of a/c.

no I thought i still had 30 (lost 3) but then found more from flooded brooder where water wicked out overnight. still have 24 healthy babies.....moral of the story, my birds are just too much for my son to handle.....he tried and did really well overall but I expected the indoor babies to be the easiest to care for as I didn’t ask him the clean up the poop!

@muddy75 im sorry about your brooder, thats one of the reasons i really prefer to brood small numbers more often. I have way fewer brooder problems/losses this way. With two bators i stagger thru the first into the second usually getting 3-6 chicks per wk.
