I use the ones with the peck thing for the quail, they learn pretty quick. I have 3 cups attached to a PVC arm leading to a 2 liter bottle. 4-6 quail use it, water lasts almost a week before needing refill/top off.

I just got ones without the peck thing for the turkeys and chickens, I love them except the stupid turkeys keep breaking them somehow, probably jumping on them. Otherwise they are wonderful, we put 2-3 cups on a 5 gallon bucket. For about 9 bantams, the bucket lasts almost a week, for 21 turkeys I top off every day but could maybe stretch to 2 days. With just quail would last a long time.

Had a nice reprieve from the heat today and was able to get a lot of outside chores done. Dispatched the extra roosters first thing then worked on cleaning out their side of the coop. Discovered the bedding was wet underneath in a large area around the waterer. Not sure how I missed it before but apparently some of the nipple waterer things have been leaking. I am going to try wrapping the threads in plumbing tape and reinstalling to see if that helps. Anyone with experience?

The remaining flock of 9 hens and one rooster look content in their expanded quarters. Still have one section reserved for an outside brooder. Now I just need to get a separate light weight grow out coop built for the in between times.

If you all think I'm nuts about poop I'm nuttier about fresh water. I'd get smaller waterers and change the water daily.

I change my waterers multiple times a day and wash them all daily.

If you want really healthy birds, that's what it takes @Texas Kiki , I applaud your dedication to the biosecurity and overall health of you're birds.

If you put it next to something and maybe even bolted it down to the structure? Another thing if you're gonna put it up against something you'll want to make sure that the roof slope is oriented away from the structure so moisture dosen't pile up. You could always go look at it in person and take measurements of your place first and make sure it fits.



You could probably make some giant auto feeders from 50 gallon trash bins. Fill em up as needed? Yeah I'm kind of worried about freezing but hopefully it won't be a nasty winter and hopefully I'll have enough insulating factors



I saw a 100qt and like 64qt ones at snowline thrift one day and was like I'll wait for half off day but someone beat me to them should've just gotten them. I have a smaller cooler but I'm wanting more egg space so we'll see. Only things I don't have yet is a fan and egg turner. Otherwise I'm set!

Thanks!! That’s a great idea. Might measure the space I want to put them too to see how much room I have for the aviary. they usually like to store some stuff back there but we can’t have it looking like a junkyard so I think I can confiscate some space for quail.

Or parakeets and cockatiels or rabbits or ferrets or meat chickens or a cat condo/cage or more chickens.... I have lots of ideas....

I have your eggs ready to go...still waiting on your cage and decision on who you are going to have butcher and cook the males.

my only experience was with vertical nipples on pvc in my chicken area.....they were horrible! leaking can be caused by algae build-up or dirt around the float mechanism as 1 possibility.....could be seal around the threads but i would check for #1 first

No.
You can sell them but...is there a market for males in your area.

Extra cages is not an option.

I can remember I tried the regular red type nipples with my chickens in the very beginning but I couldn't stand the drips.
I probably didn't make the waterers right...I gave up real quick on them.

These are the horizontal nipples and almost brand new so I don’t think it is build up or anything. Seems more like the leak is at the base where it is threaded against the bucket if that makes sense.

I was really excited to have a mess free way to give clean water but not sure now.
