OMG! I’m not just gonna go randomly off one of my girls for no reason! Hahahah

I really think I could do quail though. Or turkeys. Or something. Idk.

But those ones are all pets and named and also surprisingly all still lay well so they’ll stay until they die, however that occurs, but not by me haha

Should probably start with chickens or quail though first.

You can start with turkeys!!!! And yes I started mine aug 10 last year! The Thanksgiving Tom was up to 4lbs feed per day by 1st nov and heaven forbid a chicken got in his way when he was hungry!!! He threw a few silkies out of his way!!! Hahaha

The feed costs were well worth it on thanksgiving day!!!! And they were all so sweet and cute!!!! Def pets up until time they became dinner!

So... since we’re talking turkey, I have three BBWs, all toms. I got them May 10th and they’re huge. No matter how much I feed, they’re always ravenous. They’ve started eating my chicken eggs. I sprayed some from the fridge with bitter apple to the point of dripping and put them in the nesting boxes. I was about to close up the back, and the biggest one was already poking his head in there to peck one.

DH loves the big white scruffy-looking turkeys (I do too) but I have loads of heritage boys and girls for him to fall in love with and I don’t want the whole flock learning to eat eggs if they haven’t already. How long does one generally keep BBWs before butchering?

I’m not sure I can even carry them (alive) at this point. I could shoot them, but I prefer to bleed them out. DH can’t help me “man-handle” them—not just because he loves them, but he has some health/strength issues and serious arthritis in his hands as well—so I’m on my own there. Any ideas? Sage advice? Magical quick fixes for egg eaters (in case it’s not just the three amigos?)

Okay, never mind about the bitter apple. Didn’t work. All four eggs were gone when I went and checked just now. I picked up the biggest turkey by his humongous shanks and carried him about 600 ft (according to DHs estimate) down to the previously vacant, no-longer-flooded chicken yard. Re-accumulating ATP at present. I cannot do that again just now.

I thought at first glance she broke a leg.

She is a week or two shy of turning one.
