➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

26 live chicks and 4 more hatched and passed away. There are still a handful of eggs in the incubator. I am holding out another 24 hours to see if any more hatch.
Most of them look like jumbo browns. A few are very light compared to the others though, and I believe they are a cross kf a jumbo brown hen and the rescued cock we have of unknown type other than he is a coturnix of some sort.

Also, I previously posted about my quail not laying. They are definitely molting. When I was out there this afternoon there were feathers everywhere.
How long do coturnix quail molts last? Can I expect them to go right back to laying or are they done until the Spring?

Expect them to go right back to laying. Maybe we can help identify the color if u posted a pic of the male ur unsure about :)

All 15 extra cockrels are clean But, my DH who didnt know i was in the proccess of doing it, at the same time was discussing the landlord buying them! He wants a dozen butchered birds :th SO my dear ladies and gentlemen what do i charge after all the work i put into em? I saw someome asking 7$ each on CL but that seems like too much  jus about guaranteed theirs are smaller than mine too ;)

Maybe you want to keep them? Why sell them only to have to go to the grocery and buy lesser food for your own family?

I wanted to but the family is sick of poultry. Plus this is a whole enterprise, as a certified breeder, there Will be more, many, many more. So many interested buyers were wowed by my birds ill be setting wkly again now. If i can make the money off these i think i better do it.

Sick of poultry?!? You may need a new family. :D I'd like to volunteer! :lau Wanna adopt me and Kiki? May get Tes in on this too.

Price for butchered quail. Myshire is advertising a 4 pack for $20. Boy, that seems cheap after all the love, sweat and tears that I've poured into these tiny turds. Assume 10 oz each butchered, that is $8/pound of FINE dining experience.

Each quail is 1 lb live weight. $5 per bird or $5 a pound. ($8.33 butchered/pound at 60% meat.)

How much are you selling live birds for? Sell him the live cost plus a modest processing fee. $7 processed doesn't sound too far off. $8 is better. $9 sounds good, too. Your time, equipment and knowledge has a cost.

How much does feed cost? I'd be interested to know cost to grow out. I'm not patient enough to keep my own records.

Sell the birds, you can always fill the freezer later with more. Do you have rabbits yet? That's a good alternative if your family is tired of poultry..
