➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe! Won't know till you try it.

Still on the same page :gig every bird is different and where you have had success watching them carefully in pairs ive had trouble down to those ratios. Im looking forward to these youngins i have growing out for adding to my hen population as well as the next hatchers. The ones after that will be for sales.

we tried to “kill” ourselves yesterday again thinking we could get stuff done and go out to “play” today :he (boat or jet ski at camper)
Oldest “mini” starts last year of his degree at the end of the month so in addition to usual friday errands and chores we washed and waxed his car, and DH truck. I did groceries and RK errands while they did oil change, fuel, and other maintenance.
needless to say we have barely made it off the couch today!! hoping to do some “leisurely” work on aviary and rabbit houses today and tomorrow in addition to R&R by the pool
culled a “runt” today from last quail hatch so at 10 + 7B so far for August

Thank you both! Very helpful. Lots to think about haha

Awww sounds like you deserve the break!!! That’s sort of how I was the other day. I didn’t do as much work as that obviously but I was outside for hours, no phone, doing a lot of hard physical work, like scooping and shoveling shavings from behind the coop (A LOT had built up and because it was over time, most had packed down and required digging), filled a few barrels and then they were too heavy to move by myself, spread a few bags of potting soil on half the garden, sorted through some stuff around the coop and made a pile of stuff to throw out, watered the garden, etc., I got a lot done, at least for me, and also had the chickens out all that time, and also did A LOT of running (full on sprinting) away from wasps and bees :lau so lots of cardio too, oh and dragged/moved/lifted 2 bags of oyster shell (50 lb each) and one bag of grit (25 lb) from behind the coop into the storage shed, and moved them out of my way before that so I could shovel.

So anyway, it’s not much work by most standards but to me it was a lot, so the next day I had grand plans to go finish scooping shavings and put hardware cloth up along the chicken run finally or fence the garden in or at least do a ton of cleaning and organizing inside but I could barely get out of bed at first :lau did manage to get a few things accomplished though and today I’m much better but I was soooo sore (still am but better) I couldn’t move lol in fact, even that night, after I came in, I could barely make myself go to the store to get dinner. :lau kept collapsing into chairs. :lau

For clarification: I have been trying to be more productive lately and get a lot of stuff done but I’m not used to that at all let alone physical labor like that :lau  so it wore me out haha

Finally ready to go again though lol

Anyway, not to derail, but just that I too wore myself out and way overworked myself, and had to recover ha

Back to quail: speaking of that hardware cloth, I think I have enough to make several cages. :D

Just need the wood.

Thank you! It definitely was not easy! Haha especially since I started out thinking I could use like this grain? Shovel we have, snow shovel? Idk, I think it’s for grain, big and wide and deep and square so I thought I could get a lot of shavings at once, which i could, but it’s dull/flat on the end so I had to push really hard to get it to go into the shavings. Finally after many loads like that I gave up and got a real shovel to dig down lol and alternated between loosening it with that and getting bigger loads with the other shovel. It took forever!! I filled like 3 trash barrels haha still need to figure out how to move them, they are SO heavy. Didn’t really think of that beforehand. :lau

It had built up a ton behind the coop cause they always fall out of the coop and stuff whenever I open the big people door and usually I am more on top of it and clean it every so often but I haven’t done it in a while cause I decided I didn’t really mind it. But it was getting to where it was blocking the door from shutting right and I had to kick it out of the way every time, and the chipmunks love it, and plus my moms family is all coming down for the wedding next month and it looks like poop so I wanted to have it all cleaned up! Haha need to do something with the run too. Maybe not digging though. Maybe just add some leaves on top or something ha it’s all dirt so want it to look nicer. Also, that said, I have also gotten the real shovel and dig down/flipped huge sections of the run too. Not the other day but I do that fairly regularly so they can have fun scratching through it. That is a lot of work too. But yeah, between all the shoveling and the running I was drenched in sweat lol
