I moved the entire brooder group to the shed today and put heat plate in since temps are lower than last couple weeks. i have lost a few from the small homegrown batch last weekend. a button made a successful escape earlier today and the older “runt” has also escaped once. both of those were safely returned to the group, however, my headcount today is 1 button short of what I thought I had so not sure if it became an unknowing doggie snack or what?? we flipped couches and did a search just in case but they are safely in what is hopefully a “button-proof” cage now!! no more fake quailies for me!! it’s too heartbreaking!!

I like buttons but they are a PITA sometimes...there are so many color variants I couldn't begin to collect them all.

anyone else have hatch this weekend? i’m really BORED! it’s been rainy today and i’ve been awake way too long already! went squirrel hunting for 1st time of season and only got 1 each before the rain started and they locked down. just checked the bator for like the thousandth time and I now have a couple external pippers on day 16!! one of which is my celadon.....

I could have had a big beautiful fox squirrel here this morning but I did not have the camera with me and I had two black & white "kitties" that I needed to deal with first. The only other time there was a squirrel here was 14 years ago. It only lasted about a week before a Red-tailed hawk invited it to dinner.

the landowner of this property texted me last week begging for us to come out asap! i had a big fox squirrel barking at me but he never gave either of us a shot. both ours were decent male grey.

I had a part terrier, part beagle that was the best squirrel dog. If there was any lean at all to the tree, she would go right up the tree after them. I did have a .22 with me and I did have a shot but I don't think squirrel season is open here but I also don't know.

theyre tough, as are all the lil wild game bird types. I like my pair but i wouldnt be tryn to keep a slew of em.

Quail Batch #6 - 42 backyard eggs in the incubator.
They've really dropped laying the last 2 weeks, when I wanted eggs for incubation!
Planning QB#7 right behind this one. Grow out during October and November for winter stores.

This may get my total closer to 100.

Feb 10th hatched 68/99. Locked down 72.

May 10th hatched 48/99 cots. Locked down 51. Was expected to have low fertility.

June 25th hatched 13/16 cots 8/12 buttons. Locked down 13 cots and 10 buttons.

Set 36 on Thursday the 15th, 2 clear 3 early quitters.

Dont have clear, late or early quitter counts on the other 3 hatches.

I'm adding the rest of yours now.
