I candled all this morning.
Reminds me of how grateful I am that we have no neighbors within hearing distance. We do have 4-wheelers, oh seems like all the time. They all slow down to admire my beautiful beautiful cows (and bull now—calves soon I hope!). DH hates this slowing down phenomenon but I’d slow down, too. We do avoid interacting terminally with the local coyote population when we hear the merrymakers nearby, though.well we got a visit from our local police officer this morning!one of our “neighbors” made a complaint about DH carrying his sidearm and shooting “critters” with a rifle in city limits!
The officer was basically embarrassed to even come to the house, but he had to verify that it was in fact an “air” rifle and the circumstances.....kinda expecting a follow-up visit from humane society when said “neighbor” learns that all was perfectly legal!!

Did she think that eyes are going to magically appear?So kiki I ended my hatch this morning and right now I have (we think, 3 people counted) 48 live chicks out of 120 eggs set : 1 lavender Manchurian and 47 celadon. 2 died after hatching. Will likely lose or cull 3 more with birth defects(popeye, no eyes, and cross beak quasimodo).
My dumb mother still won't let me cull them.
Also!!! How the hell do I keep these suicidal babies from half drowning and just standing in the waterer shivering?!?!
They are almost big enough for poultry cups. Almostttt
She thinks we are running shriners hospital for deformed quails. The cross beak quasimodo is actually doing well and growing but I'm sure he'll plateau soon. The other 2 I think are missing half their brains
