i personally don’t do anything with curled toes or splay legs etc. if a deformity is too bad, I cull immediately. otherwise I grow them out as long as possible. I had a crossbeak survive up until 6 weeks, I have a falb fee in my grow-out cage right now with 1 foot completely curled under that is big enough for butcher. some people do the tape booties, but I’ve not had any luck in the ones I’ve tried. my 2 runts that have died this hatch, had no visible deformity. #36 hatched overnight and it too has curly toes. I attribute the curly toes in last hatchers to multiple humidity fluctuations.@sarabeth485 Congratulations on your eggs! I like the spotty one. Do you know which hen laid it?
@el dorado quail I have marbles in the water so they won't drown. But several just like playing in the water...
Are you serious?? I was seriously told they should hatch in dark..?
What are you doing with the curly toes?
My batch just finished hatching this morning with the last one that came out with my assistance. 100 eggs from 3 different suppliers. 19 did not hatch, 2 of which had pips, but died. I am not planning to open the eggs. I had an internal divider in the incubator to calculate the hatch rate per supplier, but the chicks jumped over it when they hatched, so they got mingled. 5 of the hatched died, 2 were blind or maybe did not open their eyes properly, 1 drowned - had splayed legs and could not get out of the water. I had 4 that were sleeping all the time. 1 recovered and OK now, 1 is looking bad and the others died (I didn't do anything about them).
I must say I will never do that many eggs again. I've slept 2 hours last night. I am going to take some pictures and post now.
yes...basically all colors can produce a tux! 2 of my homegrown eggs were falb fee tux chicks that were absolutely gorgeous!! most common, however, are the scarlet, tibetan, and rosetta tuxedosSo there are now variations of tuxedo? Argh, I was hoping to just get a couple.. I may need to buy more cagesThank you!
you can straighten the toes and place on masking tape then cover top with a second piece to hold straight. carefully trim the edges to create a “bootie” change every couple of days.I had 2 with splayed legs and did the straw and the hairband (first time ever, needed assistance) and it worked. I am thinking of massaging the curly toes as I cannot lose babies. I sow that article about the toe gloves, but it looked too complicated and I have no time to do it..
i personally am not well versed in genetics....my eggs are like a box of chocolates.....I never know what I’m going to get! @CoturnixComplex can probably help more with setting up breeding groups to get colors you want. there a a few color combinations that are lethal. but i believe that it is possible to get some tuxedo if 1 breeder is a tux. i believe my falb fee tuxedos came from a silver tux hen and my falb fee male.Speaking of color variations.. is there some research done on which Coturnix colors breed well with which? Like Manchurian with Pharaoh - gives pretty god hatch rate. While the white A&M with others - very poor hatch rate. And what are the mom and dad of these different tuxedos then?
I think who ever told you that they need to hatch in the dark is silly.@sarabeth485 Congratulations on your eggs! I like the spotty one. Do you know which hen laid it?

I'll take number one.OK, show time.. No 1 is unknown color to me. Have not had such before and I like it! I may keep them for myself.
No 2 is some silver, which I have also not seen before, so I will keep that one too.
No 3 looks like a tuxedo, I am not sure??? I will keep that one too.
