āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Pfew! Good - a small part of the the newly hatched were given to the customer and I have less to clean and feed.
I am sure you guys know that but I have made some observations on this batch.
I had eggs from 3 different suppliers in the same incubator, same conditions.
1 group of eggs - really bad most white broilers & Manchurians. Very high mortality and malformed chicks. Several with splayed legs.
2 group from the other supplier - 75% hatch rate, very very small chicks, I have one that hatched with assistance, she (I am sure it is she as she is a fighter) is now 2 days old and 5.60 grams. Doing well.
3 group supplier - very happy, healthy chicks, no malformations, no sickness and no mortality.
And overall I noticed that all the died after hatch were either Manchurians or whites, I have not lost a single tuxedo or pharaoh. Does anyone else have the same experience?

And just when I said I will NEVER set so many eggs in the incubator, I have a customer who wants a 100 hatched chicks.. I am tempted but I will have to negotiate with him...

@el dorado quail I also have several with crustiness on the back, I just left them, not doing anything, I am sure it will go away. Does not bother them.
@BReeder! Now, are you counting the days from 0 or from 1? I count from 0 and I do lockdown on day 14, never tried anything different, but I may risk next time with an earlier/later lockdown, just to experiment.
I use hatchabatch app (@Texas Kiki uses the better app but it’s not available on iphone/ipad) hatchabatch starts day 1 so I edit set date accordingly. I typically lockdown on day 15. Even if I stop turning earlier, I wait until day 15 or first sign of external pip before raising humidity (again, learning from @Texas Kiki and others here) my humidity throughout stays at or below outdoor humidity here and @ lockdown I try to stay in 45-50 range. of course most depends on health of breeding stock, but from my batches I do see some colors hatch stronger and healthier overall. For me, that is typically pearl, pharaoh (wild-type chicks), and tibetan. my homegrowns so far have been smaller chicks comparatively with some deformities that I attribute to young flock. my ideal hatches occur from end day 16-early day 18. most later hatches tend to have curled toes and/or other problems. If you’re trying to fill an order of 100 chicks, I would recommend incubating 240 eggs.

240? Oh boy! I would think that if they are all fertile, you could set about 175 and be fairly safe. I would expect some to still not develop, and I expect 60% hatch rate. Although if they ar shipped eggs and not from your own flock the numbers can be all over the place.

my numbers were assuming 75% fertility/development and 60% hatch

It looks amazing, BReeser! Here’s a link to a feeder that might give you some ideas:

I am definitely building something like this. I would like to be able to fill it outside the cage, but that's not absolutely necessary since I have a 24"x10" opening if I open both doors. It should be fairly easy to remove, fill and replace 3 feeders.

I set 27 cots and 7 buttons last night. I have the 31 going into lockdown tonight --theyre due monday. I think theres enough hatching that i wont need to add water, just let them dry hatch. Yall will trip when i can get pics of how ive loaded these things down  these are out of my Lavander Manchurians pen and next collection starting today setting next thurs is going to be from the Pansy pen.
