Thanks! That makes sense. I don’t know how I missed this thread when it first started lol I’ve been around the site plenty long enough. But then again I wasn’t that interested in quail then but I’ve been around kinda a while now I guess lol I can’t believe October/fall was a year ago already

What is DNR?

department of natural resources/ division of fish and wildlife.....the only state regulated gamebirds that require a permit is ring-neck pheasants and bobwhites.....when i purchased my pheasant chicks at RK I should have gotten permit, but i figured we would process them at 6 months....never considered that we’d get so attached and want to keep them. permit here is only 15$ per year

oh my update for the day!!! so DH and I started panicking again and we broke down and called dnr. They are allowing me to apply for my game breeders permit for my birds even though I am past the time frame. (5 days). I just had to get a receipt reprinted from RK for purchase.

If you have the breeder thing does that mean you might be able to keep them all?

No I mean like eggs that you set 30% infertile or fail to develop?

It really depends on where the eggs come from.

Remember a while back when I asked you about the number of batches allowed? It was for this and I decided then to use the desktop.
I had moved all my personal batches to the app just do my desktop would be clean for just this thread.

I am picky.
I just couldn't start keeping track at the end of a year.
I had to wait until January.

that unfortunately is still up to the city but we are still planning to fight on basis of size and that only the pheasants are considered gamebirds by the state....that puts us at 7 gamebirds (pheasant) and 2 rabbits if the 5 chukars and all coturnix quail don’t count. I recalculated today allowing 4square ft per quail (with 75 adults) and that leaves pheasant and chukar at 27.5 square feet per bird!! i personally think that is more than humane!!
