➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I have a myshire jumbo male in with the white girls. I wasn’t expecting any more whites on the first cross.
I thought white was recessive.

So neato.

Any guesses on the something else?
I don't know enough about quail genetics but in chickens there are both recessive and dominant white.

No flash used.
Something isn't right.
I've never noticed the eye red before so it may have always been like that or it has just turned like that.
Can you check to see if she's blind in that eye? It appears to me that it may be filled with blood....possibly an injury you're not aware of...:idunno

There are at least 5 separate genes that can produce a phenotypically white quail with minor variation (recessive white, dominant white, dotted white, dominant silver, complete albino). I think there's another but I forget what it is.

But, @RUNuts , your male could also just carry 1 copy of recessive white too.

I know it is real. Some birds have red eyes. Cinnamon guineas have red eyes. Spotted Towhees have red eyes. I am sure there are others.
My bad I thought you were meaning that maybe I was seeing it but it wasn't there.
