Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
Kiki i shouldve told u before now how much i love your sayings. Its hard for me to use them becuz its something my grandfather always did. His werent poultry related tho :gig he called the tv the idiot box and the pic taking roadside ticket machines pimp police for example.

Should I jinx myself and call it?

Kiki QB#7 hatched 27 September. 51 eggs set. 30 eggs to lock down. 28 Jumbo Quails happily in the brooder this week. 2 yellow and 1 red something. 25 wild types. Not thrilled about the fertility on this group.

QB#8 to incubator on Wednesday. Trying to be selective. Only setting eggs larger than 12 grams now. Hoping for good fertility because laying has dropped. Will have to shuffle the coops this weekend for clean out and freeing up the larger coop for growouts.

Are you liking the smaller cages? The breeder groups are getting along in the 3.75 square foot townhouses. 5 female and a male are the breeder groups. I've got a small female that could be pulled in Set#2.

Have decided to overwinter 3 groups and keep the hens for a year.
Thinking real hard about keeping the yellow ones. They stick out like a sore thumb but all 3 are female. And just as big as the Jumbos. So, for the novelty of it. And ease of sexing at hatch. Will see if it holds true.

Well, I just got back home from a business trip and found out 12 have hatched before the scheduled time. 66 eggs went to Lockdown -> 23 now in the brooder, 1 shrink-wrapped.. I HATE IT - What do I do to prevent it??
Now, how did that happen - male Tuxedo, female Wildtype (Pharaoh) and I got 1 Tuxedo chick, 1 Wildtype and 2 goldens???

I see several of the sexable at hatch females
Careful. I've hatched 3 yellow and they are all female. I know the A&M males look exactly like the females. This is a theory in my backyard that I don't expect to hold true for ever.

My other theory is that since they are white, they will be larger. That one is not holding true.

I thawed 8 quail out and there is a tiny one in the bag. T-tiny. There is a wide variety of sizes in these genes. BTW - the pot roasted quail was delicious and tender! I stopped at 2.

that’s awesome!! let me know male:female ratio once you call the hatch! mine was almost 50/50 as i ended up with 8 female, 7 male of the 15 survivors
