What percentage of mortality rate after hatch for quail is typical

My main reason for death after hatch was overcrowding and the one at the bottom of the pile suffocated. I now have 2 light bulbs in the brooder so they spread out but I still had two that died . So on your question-2-5% mortality after hatch for me. And I found the opposite- smaller hatch less death. Larger hatch - more dying.

@RubiconChicken how is your quail eggs incubation going? How many eggs?

We finally figure out a way to get the poults to eat!! When i went out this morning they had finally cleaned the entire dish of our food “concoction” and they were going to town on the fresh mix!!! first I tried just wetting the feed....that didn’t work....next DH mixed feed and some treats with buttermilk and then just milk. Today I changed it out to mixing feed and a bit of treats with plain greek yogurt. I also got another bottle of life-lytes and have been adding to their water. hopefully their appetite appetite is increasing and they will start eating the plain dry crumbles in between feedings.
