Then they are the oil glands under the skin on the tail. There should be a pimple like erection on the outside of the skin. When you watch birds preen, they always seem to start near the base of their tail while they collect the oil to work on their feathers.

Ok so preen glands got it. So the males had very small testes and females didn’t have anything going on egg wise I don’t think I even seen any ovaries

The ones I killed had testicles the size of marbles, I was amazed with them only 5 weeks old, but they had been crowing since 3 weeks.

Oh, I thought that picture was showing it below the vent. Makes sense then, I just didn't see it on any of mine the other day.

Just a guess but I suspect that you did not skin out the tail and just cut it off. Part of my process when processing poultry is to cut out the oil glands after I have plucked the birds.

i ran the errands this afternoon while DH was working on food prep for tomorrow......he may have added some fireball whiskey to the apple-cherry stuffing for the smoked turkey!
