➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I want to pick one breed like silkie.

Only issue is HeiHei. He can fly over any fence and I'm not clipping his wings because I prefer him that way. Hes my baby boy... I've completely fell for that little guy!
there is only 1 issue with breeding silkies.....hatching eggs sell well, and pullets sell well, but very difficult to deal with extra cockerels because not good eating! and my “favorite” silkie cockerel was the only cockerel I’ve raised that ever drew blood!! (and he did on both legs above my boots!)

I would use the rails. I had one of those horizontal egg turners, it didn't operate to my satisfaction. It would "hang up" fairly regular and sometimes not turn the eggs at all. I traded a perfectly good up right turner for it because I wanted to try it! little did I know it would be :he.
I think some of the eggs are too small for the chicken rails, so a few will just have to be steamed & be tossed into the pickle jar!
Lucky lucky birds!! I wish I could give mine a run that big. :hit
We're lucky, living out in the country.

But all bantams are probably bad for meat, right

I use regular chicken rails for my pheasant eggs...no problems. Most pheasant eggs are the same size as bantam eggs. Quail eggs definitely won't work in them though.

Mine love to free range on our hillside, it's wooded, I think they like having the extra cover from above.

I used to free range mine but then stopped for a while but I want to start again. Let them out yesterday for the first time in forever. They loved it. Mine go all over but do tend to stick to cover or close to it. Like under the trees or in the bushes or whatever. Also lots of good bugs and stuff there but still ha

Most doubles will develop but it gets to a point that either they use up the yolk before they can reach hatching stage and die or become over crowded if both yolks are fertilized and can't position themselves to hatch.
So, it'd be better if only 1 yolk is fertile then?

:barnieI need more quail rails then!
Those aren't cheap either, dadgumit!:he

The one I cracked open...only one of the yolks was fertilized and it wasn't quite two yolks. They were joined together..
I am hoping to be able to tell, when candling, if I can see two yolks in this one I set.
I'm just doing it to learn.
I want to see what I can see inside it.
