I just put my button eggs into lockdown. Coturnix batch goes into lockdown on Saturday.

Interesting. While the humidity between San Francisco and Houston is similar, Houston is hotter. I also run at 30% humidity with no added water and then a wide mouth jar to tweak the humidity to 40-50%. Working well. One thing that stands out to me is that many of the eggs had hairline cracks. That is enough to kill a chick, and you should discard any that have cracks. If these are coturnix eggs, I get the best results at 30% humidity until pipping, when I raise it up to 40-50%.
Have faith! They’ll hatch and you’ll have some cute little buttons! Best of luck!Day 17 and still no sign of hatching on the button eggs.![]()
Oh wow I’ve never heard of that ! Usually I do 45% humidity and up it to 65% on day 10, then keep it at that or go up to 70 for lockdown and I get around 95% hatch rate. Quail are so weird!!One thing that stands out to me is that many of the eggs had hairline cracks. That is enough to kill a chick, and you should discard any that have cracks. I actually use a heating pad and throw a thin layer of shavings on top of it, then I grab my older heat lamp and they have that heat above them. The older lamp isn’t as strong as it was at first obviously but the 2 together work great! I don’t have to worry about a single heat lamp getting too hot for them!Guten Nacht,
Do you have any issues using the heating plate? Several of us have tried, but the quail get too cold. I went back to using lights to keep the little bumblebees warm enough. Interested in you experience.
I'd keep the largest. Are you keeping for meat or pets? The Wild type would be basis for everything.
I have a pip!Have faith! They’ll hatch and you’ll have some cute little buttons! Best of luck!
Told you!!I have a pip!![]()
