➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

As a side topic, I started switching the birds to southern states, they overwhelmingly hate it. I mixed 25% into their old food, and in all pens I have a bowl of southern state’s left over, and all the Hudson pellets picked out if it. I thought maybe it’s just too powdery, and they like pellets, but the new chicks are being started on it, and they definitely don’t eat it as enthusiastically as the H&H was received by previous chicks. I will keep the chicks on it, and hopefully as they grow they will just accept it because it’s the only option. The southern states is $19 and change for 50lbs, the H&H is $35 for 20 lbs, nutrition is comparable. I’ll keep the Hudson for the big birds, but I have a second feeder in the main pen, so I’ll probably keep some in there.
Thats too bad hope it works out qnd have u tried seeing the prices on amazon ?

Amazon doesn’t carry Hudson, so I buy it from chewy, I have it auto ship to save a few bucks that way, and I get 2 bags at a time so I don’t pay shipping. It seriously does not benefit chewy that I buy 100 lbs of feed to just barely meet their spending minimum to get it sent free. The ups guy has to use the hand truck hahaha, it can’t be cheap.

The H&H cost I said is the amazon cost. I have prime so it ships free. But honestly I think the albinos have only done so well because that food is frickin amazing. If I see a change in chick conditions I may have to go back to it. But most everyone else with albinos have had a poor experiences with them. Someone had said in another post that Zach from Myshire was asked about the albinos and he said that he occasionally gets some and they don’t thrive, I paraphrased because I can’t remember exactly, but it made me not too hopeful for them to live. But separation and good nutrition, then I added supplements, and they’re ok so far. Those first few days with no added supplements the H& H really did well for them. Just writing this makes me worry for them because I’ve been swapping them too. Maybe I should just order another bag in case haha. They still have nutridrench tho.

Ok so there’s like 28 in the brooder now lol, 3 wet ones in the bator, I think they were sticky and are as dry as they’re gonna get. There’s 3 eggs left, 2 are pipped, and still active inside I think the other was an early quitter I couldn’t see into, (still can’t see, doesn’t feel like it’s moving, but I’ll leave it until the late bloomers hatch) and that’s 34, which is how many I think I had. I was very lazy about tracking this because I planned to sell them, so I guess just stayed too aloof. Normally I keep on top of the numbers lol. But anyway, it’s winding down to the end.

just realized there must be only 27 in the brooder, because one had died last night.

knock on wood...
No curled toes, wry neck, or deformities, so I’m relieved the incubator is a-ok.

My babies are eating a ton of food! Is it normal for the crop (croup) to be really full? They are all bulging with food.

Of course they eat a lot. They're going to double (or more) in size every week for the first 3-4 weeks. I think they eat their weight in food each day and poop twice that.
