I've always wanted to know why all of you experienced breeders buy eggs from hatcheries. (It's not an option in Hawaii, but I am curious what the benefits are vs. HG)

For me, new colors. I hatch my own too but the only way to get the color genes I want to play with is to bring them into my flock, haha.

I don’t separate my colors and because mine are outside, they don’t lay year round. I hatch some homegrown eggs throughout the year, but I also order new eggs to achieve certain goals.....ie jumbos or sex-link specifically to raise as meat birds. new colors and bloodlines to add to my aviary etc.

Less chance of introducing a disease into your flock. I don't buy from hatcheries but from an established 'known' breeder.

Cause I don't maintain a large enough gene pool to prevent bad things. I'll stick to the hobby side. I played with a large group, but that starts being work real quick.

I'm keeping my day job and still want fresh eggs.
