The first pip I noticed is a whole chick out of the egg now! They are coming fast already!

Should I leave the chick in the incubator overnight? I was going to go to the farm store in the morning for gamebird food, wondering if I should go tonight instead... It's almost 8pm here.

I leave them in the incubator for 12 hours until they are dry. Kiki takes them out wet. Your choice. Be sure the brooder is warm before you pull the chicks.

I didn't see Speckles' egg! Her eggs have always been good, and she lays such nice, big eggs.

I really didn't plan on them coming tonight - I thought for sure it'd be tomorrow at the earliest, and the farm store on Saturday is a ritual for boyfriend & I so I thought I'd just grab it tomorrow . I've never raised gamebirds before (only chickens) so I didn't have it on hand. I did already confirm they have game crumbles though so I'll just be grabbing it first thing in the morn, since the babe is staying in the 'bator overnight anyhow.

I put a handful in a Ziploc bag and then I take a hammer to it.

It's quick and it works.
It's the meat hammer thing I use.

A meat tenderizer is what it's called. I use the flat side of it.
