Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
The first pip I noticed is a whole chick out of the egg now! They are coming fast already!

Should I leave the chick in the incubator overnight? I was going to go to the farm store in the morning for gamebird food, wondering if I should go tonight instead... It's almost 8pm here.
I leave them in the incubator for 12 hours until they are dry. Kiki takes them out wet. Your choice. Be sure the brooder is warm before you pull the chicks.

I really didn't plan on them coming tonight - I thought for sure it'd be tomorrow at the earliest, and the farm store on Saturday is a ritual for boyfriend & I so I thought I'd just grab it tomorrow šŸ˜…. I've never raised gamebirds before (only chickens) so I didn't have it on hand. I did already confirm they have game crumbles though so I'll just be grabbing it first thing in the morn, since the babe is staying in the 'bator overnight anyhow.

Make sure you crush it up for the first week.

I put a handful in a Ziploc bag and then I take a hammer to it.

yes! that seems a more therapeutic way than how I planned to do it, grinding it in a bullet blender... lol. thank you!

It's quick and it works.
It's the meat hammer thing I use.
